Roy Hill Safety Shower

Thermal Engineering was engaged by a water treatment contractor to provide an air-cooled chiller to supplement their offer of a safety shower network on the Roy Hill Mine site. With high ambient temperatures of 50°C and a list of mine site specifications to be adhered to Thermal proposed one of our Light Mining (LM) chillers. The 107kW base cooling capacity was provided by a CA115 model chiller manufactured in Victoria, Australia.

To meet the safety requirements of a mining environment Thermal upgraded the electrical components of the base level chiller in our Perth facility to fully segregated voltages ensuring all controls were kept at 24V in a separate enclosure of the Control Panel. A full QA process was also undertaken to ensure systems were pressure tested and the chiller factory run on Thermal’s testing bed which allowed both our customer and the end user to observe the chiller operating and ask any questions they may have.

The chiller was installed and then commissioned by one of our trained team of Chiller technicians to ensure all settings were adjusted to cope with the real-world conditions. The chiller is now responsible for keeping a 30,000L Tank at the customers desired temperature that feeds water to safety shower and eye wash stations across the nearby plant.
