As ambient temperatures reach 50°C or more and dust clogs the air it’s no wonder that overheating is a common point of failure. Thermal’s mining Chillers are designed to handle extreme temperatures and environments to keep your equipment running consistently when down time is not an option. Heavy Mining

Our Heavy Mining (HM) chillers are engineered to stay functional and rise above the challenges posed by harsh mining environments. These solutions come with cooling capacities ranging from 60kW to 300kW. Our heavy mining chillers are optimal for the crushing and milling stages of mining, both of which involve heavy machinery and critical cooling demands.

Light Mining Chillers

Light Mining

Our Light Mining (LM) chillers for smaller-scale mining activities are designed for work in environments where cooling requirements are much less extensive. These are offered in capacities ranging from 5kW to 150kW, perfect for regulating temperatures for Safety Showers, Potable Water networks, Laboratory Sampling Equipment that are in more forgiving environments.

Thermal Engineering was engaged to provide cooling solutions for the crushing operations at Rio Tinto’s flagship Iron Ore mine – Gudai-Darri. Thermal Engineering selected, engineered and supplied our 200kW Chillers to support both primary and secondary crushing operations.

Novatron Safety Shower ROM 4 NPI Chillers

Thermal Engineering was engaged by a water treatment contractor to provide an air-cooled chiller to supplement their offer of a safety shower network on the Roy Hill Mine site. With high ambient temperatures of 50°C and a list of mine site specifications to be adhered to Thermal proposed one of our Light Mining (LM) chillers. The 107kW base cooling capacity was provided by a CA115 model chiller manufactured in Victoria, Australia.

As the site ran multiple crushers that required multiple cooling temperatures a custom solution was required to take the constant 10°C water produced by the chillers and create appropriate process cooling water loops that were at the correct temperatures. Thermal Engineering designed a skid that utilised insulated tanks, duty/standby pumps, heat exchangers and actuated valves to suit the customer’s requirements.

The existing units provided 15 years prior by Thermal Engineering required an upgrade to allow for increased production capacity. The new units provided were designed to include dual refrigeration systems coupled with chilled water and cooling water process circuits. Combined with an air-cooled condenser unit fitted with 4 electronically controlled fans with in-built VSD’s that allowed the chillers to provide 150kW of cooling at a remarkable design ambient temperature of 50°C
